Passover is a holiday that tells how the Israelites became free. To help them, ten strange and scary things—called plagues—happened in Egypt. Each plague showed amazing power and has cool connections to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math)!
Blood: The Nile River turned red. Science (Biology): Red algae can bloom, turning water red and hurting fish. Lesson: Clean water is precious.
Frogs: Jumping creatures everywhere! Science (Ecology): Frogs fled the toxic river. Lesson: Small changes create huge problems.
Lice: Itchy, tiny bugs! Technology: The special, ultra-fine-toothed combs needed to catch tiny pests are an ancient invention we still rely on today. Lesson: Simple tools can solve tricky problems.
Flies: A buzzing, flying invasion. Engineering: Scientists actually study the complex, speedy way fly wings move to help design tiny flying robot drones. Lesson: We can find brilliance in unexpected places.
Sick Livestock: Farm animals died. Technology: Ancient farmers relied on animal-powered tools. Lesson: Our choices affect everyone.
Boils: Ouch! Terrible sores. Engineering: The human skin is a marvel of biological engineering. Lesson: Health is a gift.
Hail and Fire: Giant frozen balls that burn! Science (Meteorology): A super-rare, powerful thunderstorm. Lesson: Nature is wild and powerful.
Locusts: Hungry bugs ate all the crops. Math: Multiplying bugs equals zero food left for people. Lesson: We must protect our resources.
Darkness: Pitch black for three days. Science (Astronomy): A total solar eclipse happens when the moon completely blocks the sun, causing sudden, eerie darkness during the day. Lesson: Even the darkest times will eventually pass.
Death of the Firstborn: The saddest plague. Lesson: Every life matters. This finally led to freedom.
The plagues aren't just an ancient story. They are full of wild science and powerful lessons we can still learn today!
